Holland and Germany - Fall 2003

Here are some selected photos from the 200 or so I took during my three week vacation. There are about 70 pictures total.

The first thing that struck me coming into Amsterdam was: Sugababes have a new album out! Hey, I am a Eurotrash DJ. This poster was everywhere.

The bicycle is the most important form of transportation in Amsterdam, followed by walking, and then by trams, and finally cars.

Mr. Lava, with a bottle of Amsterdam's legendary Heineken in hand and a sticker on his forehead.

Dutch Beer

Most American beer-drinkers can tell you that Amstel and Heineken are Dutch beers. However, I was surprised that these were actually popular over in Amsterdam. I mean, no American beer connoisseur would order a Budweiser in the U.S. I thought maybe the Dutch would have an equivalent disrespectful relationship with their own beers. But if they did, I didn't notice it. Heineken was everywhere.

Hey, Heineken is a good beer, and it's a pleasure to have drunk it in Holland. I hope you have enjoyed this testimonial.

Halloween Party

Halloween seems to be growing in popularity throughout Europe, and there were more than a few Halloween-themed events in Amsterdam. Cafe Uilenstede was packed with revellers. My only complaint was that it took a while to get from one's seat to the dancefloor, and by the time you got there the song that had attracted you in the first place was prematurely cut off by the DJ's. Many pop tunes got about two minutes of play before disappearing, usually without a transition, into another song.

On my way to the restroom a girl warned me to be careful not to step on her purse. As I left the restroom I promptly tripped over it anyway.

We got pretty hammered here, which, if you're already familiar with my web site, should come as no surprise. It was an excellent evening.
